Newton's first law

Newton's first law of motion states that an object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion with the same speed and in the same direction, unless acted upon by an unbalanced external force.

The topic of this evening's call: How Sesan's employer hires.

When there's a role to fill, they go on LinkedIn and send messages to designers in other big companies like Amazon, Instacart, etc, and see if they want to move. If they do, they start the process and see where it takes them. This happens before opening this role to the general public.

Years ago, when I wanted to quit my full-time in an internship's clothing job, my dad discouraged me. He said it’s easier to find a job when you’re with a job. He used Nigerian banks as an example then. It’s the same case as what happens with the employer.

Thinking of it now, perhaps my dad is Newton. When you’re in a job, it’s easy to keep being in a job by moving from job to job. But when you’re out of a job, it’s easy to be out of it for a long as until there’s an external force that decides to take a chance on you. The same thing can be seen in basketball. If you’re on the bench, you’ll most likely be on the bench the whole season and so on.

This is why my LinkedIn still shows my former employer even though we’ve been broken up for months now. An attempt to seem like I’m in motion.

First draft: October 6, 2024

Baby's listening to:

While others partied in the club on Friday, I did so in the gym. I stumbled on this Ebo Taylor track while feeling through a Spotify playlist. Sesan sent me his Love & Death some years ago, and I rinsed it so much I forget to check out his other songs.
